TOP ZECROM PLUS PROCESS

Decorative plating process for plastics not using environmentally hazardous substances

Plating on plastic is one of the surface finish technology that prevails in our life. Metallized plastics are widely used to improve the designs of automobiles, motorcycles, home appliances as well as the interior parts for kitchens and bathrooms in order to achieve rich and luxurious feelings. The metallization process is conducted on molded plastic resins such as ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) or PC/ABS (Polycarbonate/Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene). In the process, we operate degreasing, etching, neutralizing, catalyzing, acceleration, and electroless plating steps as the pre-treatment, then copper/nickel/chromium plating steps are following. In the conventional plating on plastic process, chromic acid has been used in the etching step; however, the use of chromic acid is regulated by REACH regulation to protect human body and environment.

Product features, specifications

TOP ZECROM PLUS PROCESS does not use chromic acid in the etching step. Also, it features that silver is used as a catalyst instead of palladium, and the etching and catalyzing steps can be conducted in one step; consequently, the step number of plastic metallizing process can decrease from 17 to 5 compared to the conventional process. The metallization process for plastic can meet carbon-neutral requirements by energy saving and water reduction in manufacturing fields. For this reason, TOP ZECROM PLUS PROCESS received the Award in the 34th New Technology and New Product for small and medium sized companies as a plating process that can contribute to SDGs policy.
